The feel of Summer is definitely in the air this weekend. With the warmer temperatures, many people will be heading to area lakes to get in some relaxing, leisure time, boating, swimming, skiing and fishing. But, be careful at one area lakes. The first blue-green algae warning of the season has been issued for Melvern Lake in Osage County. This indicates a blue-green algae bloom is present and conditions are unsafe for human and pet exposure in the bloom area.

Signs are posted at the lake, but remember the lake water is not safe for pets to drink and contact with the water should be avoided. You can eat the fish you catch but be sure to rinse the filets with fresh water. Also, if you come in contact, wash with clean water as soon as possible.

More warnings will be issued throughout the Summer months as the weather warms and algae becomes more prevalent.
