Ottawa officially has a new fire truck. The new truck arrived in Ottawa yesterday afternoon May 10th, after nearly a year and half of waiting. You may have noticed it sitting in front the fire station on Second Street. However, it was quickly pulled into the station. Fire Chief Tim Mathias says that the truck won’t be in service for a few weeks as the crews have to undergo format training on the truck. Although it is nearly identical to the department’s Engine One, there are some minor differences and the company that built the truck will send representatives to go over specifics.

The new truck does have more storage for equipment, as it only has four seats instead of the traditional six seats. Mathias says there will be several public events surrounding the truck. One of those will be a Chamber Coffee June 23rd and a formal “backing in” ceremony after that. The new engine will replace Engine Number 3, which will be sold to the Williamsburg Fire Department where it will eventually be stationed at the South Station on 14th Street. Mathias says the public is welcome to come by and see the new truck any time.
