A man whose child sex crimes case in Osage County was dropped last year, has been convicted of the same crime in Federal Court. The U. S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Kansas announced Tuesday, June 13th, that a Federal Jury convicted 58-year-old Steven Spradley, of Kansas City, Missouri, on one count of traveling with the intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct. Court documents indicate that Spradley traveled from Jackson County, Missouri to Osage County in July of 2021 to have sex with someone he believed to be a 17-year-old girl he met online. He actually had been in communication with the Osage County Sheriff’s Office, which is part of the Kansas Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

The jury failed to reach a verdict on a second count of attempted transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.

Spradley faces a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison. Sentencing is set for October 10th.
