Tragedy struck a young Ottawan early Saturday morning, July 1st. Just before 7:00 that morning, the Ottawa Police were dispatched to the 200 block of East 5th Street for a report of a medical emergency. Upon arrival they found a 35 year old man deceased in the yard. That man has been identified as Pierre Johnson. Details involving his death have not been confirmed at this time, although it is believed to be an accident of some sort.
Johnson was an Ottawa High School, Class of 2006 graduate. He was a massage therapist and an up-and-coming leader in the Ottawa community. Recently, he had filed to run for a spot on the Ottawa City Commission in the November General Election, citing the need for young faces in city government and bring change to the community. As a small business owner, he wanted to make policy to benefit other small business owners, and to make Ottawa a healthier place to live and encourage people to move here and raise their families.
