When the United States became involved in World War II, the enemy came very close to home here in Franklin County, although the enemy were German Prisoners’ of War. Franklin County Historical Society Executive Director, Diana Staresinic-Deane, says a recent program by Ottawa High School teacher Candy Campbell revealed some little known facts:

Staresinic-Deane says there didn’t seem to be much concern about prisoners escaping; in fact, occasionally a POW would wander off, but usually showed up again on their own accord.
