In 2021 there were 1.4 million fires resulting in 3,800 deaths. That’s one fire every 93 seconds in the United States. Fire related deaths were up over 8% from 2020. Fire deaths have been on the increase since 2012 with a 33% increase since then. Many of those deaths could have been prevented, as two thirds of those deaths happened in home s with no smoke alarms or malfunctioning alarms.
Ottawa Fire Departments’ Lieutenant Mike Wilson, who is the department’s Fire Prevention Coordinator says the fire department has a new program to keep you safe:
If you need new alarms in your home, or more smoke alarms, give the fire department a call or stop by. They can help set up an appointment to come to your home for installation. Make sure you are protected in the case of a fire. Get the alarms you need installed today.
