The number of Evergy customers in Douglas County without electricity dropped to 2,000 as of this morning, after storms moved through the area yesterday afternoon, July 14th. A major transmission line leading out of the Wolf Creek Nuclear Generating Station near Burlington was damaged by storms, necessitating that the plant reduce it power output to just 60% of capacity. No damage to the reactor itself has occurred.
Evergy has 2,000 employees working to try to restore power to the Douglas County and Kansas City metro area. They expect another 1,000 people to arrive tonight from Iowa, Missouri and Colorado to help restore service to all their customers.
