
With the heat, heat illnesses will come into play, particularly to older people as their bodies don’t effectively cool down and it takes longer to recover when they do get overheated. So, as the temperatures rise, it’s important to think about ways to beat the heat. One thing to be aware of is how medications interact with heat. Frontier District Extension Agent, Janae McNally:
She adds that those with diabetes need to be extra cautious. She also suggests taking older adults, that may be without air conditioning, to Senior Centers, libraries, and other public buildings to stay cool. Avoid outdoor activities, and if you are outside, be sure to wear strong sunscreen and, of course, drink plenty of water.
