Details of a serious injury accident that happened two weeks ago today have been released. On July 17th, a vehicle driven by 38-year-old Franklin Surbaugh, from La Cygne was traveling northbound on Hospital Drive, when for an unknown reason, crossed the center line and struck a vehicle head on, driven by 65-year-old Vernon Noel, also from La Cygne. Surbaugh was taken to the Miami County Medical Center in Paola by Miami County EMS with possible severe injuries. After being stabilized, he was transferred by ground to Overland Park Regional Hospital for further treatment.
Noel was trapped in his vehicle and had to be extracted by the Paola fire department. Once stabilized on scene, he was flown by Life Flight Eagle helicopter to Research Medical Center with severe injuries. No further updates on their conditions are available.
