
The Franklin County Drug Enforcement Unit is comprised of detectives from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Ottawa Police Department and they work jointly to investigate drug crimes that are affecting the community. Lately they have been focused on fentanyl and an arrest was made in mid-July. Ottawa Police Chief Adam Weingartner, says most of the other illegal drugs they find are laced with the deadly fentanyl and people here have died from ingesting the drug. He had a message for people about being careful:
He adds that the test kits will soon be available over the counter, but right now, demand is high and supplies are low so they are very hard to get a hold of.
An Ottawa man died of a drug overdose last Saturday, August 5th. While the cause of death has not been released, tests are beng ran to see what type of drug led to the man’s death.
