The storm that blew through Ottawa a little more than a week ago did some major damage to trees, power lines, poles, and several structures in the city. Utilities Director Dennis Tharp says the last time he remembered such damage was the ice storm that hit the area in 2003.Looking back, he acknowledges that perhaps there could have been some things done differently, however, they worked to get some vital services back on as soon as possible.
The ice storm in 2003 knocked out power to the entire city. Some areas of Ottawa were without electricity for over a week. The difference was people had to fight the cold then, not the sweltering heat this storm came with.
