Thursday morning, August 10, the Paola Police Department and the Miami County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two car accident on U.S. 169 at 327th Street. One of the vehicles was northbound in the southbound lane and the vehicles collided head on, with one vehicle catching fire. Although life saving efforts were given at the scene, both drivers died. They have been identified as 58-year-old Carolyn Nuckles, of Garnett, and 49-year-old Paula Weers, of Spring Hill. The Paola Police Department says that the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
