Details being released about a fatal fire in Franklin County. Thursday, afternoon,August 10th, a structure fire was reported in the 3100 block of Idaho Road. When first responders arrived on the scene, the home was actively on fire and it was learned that the occupant of the home was still inside. A Sheriff’s Deputy and neighbors attempted to contact the man and they were eventually able to enter the burning house and remove the unresponsive man. Unfortunately, life saving efforts were not successful and the man died from injuries he received in the fire. He has been identified as 87-year-old Donald Meyer, of Ottawa.
Due to the death, the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to provide fire specific investigative assistance. The investigation is ongoing and no further information has been released. Northwest Fire, LOH Fire, and the Ottawa Fire Department all responded to the scene.
