Anderson County Commissioners will drop the local property tax levy a little bit but still spend about $92,000 more for the county’s 2024 operating year than thay set for 2023, while collecting an additional $644,000 in property taxes next year for the 2024 budget. A public hearing for the 2024 spending plan was held recently during the regular County Commission meeting. Based on rising values mainly of residential properties in the county, Anderson County assessed valuation increased about 9% from $126.2 million to $137.7 million. The coming year’s authorized spending of $15,027,400 is up from $14,935,290 for 2023. This includes funds carried forward from the preceding year of $1.5 million for the 2023 budget and $942,611 for 2024. The combination of the higher assessed value of the county for the coming year and the estimated spending level produces a mill levy, of 76.318 mills for 2024, down from 78.185 in 2023.
