A Garnett man has been arrested in a case involving a fatal traffic accident he was involved in back on April 28th. Eighteen year-old Weston Johnson of Garnett, was driving a stolen Mazda CX9, which was taken from a convenience store in Garnett just prior to the accident. He left Garnett and was northbound on Highway 59 when for reasons unknown, he crossed the center line and struck a Toyota pickup driven by 33-year-old Bryce Crump of Baldwin Cty, head on, near Finney Road. Johnson’s vehicle came to rest against a guardrail and Crumps vehicle was pushed into the ditch, coming to rest on the drivers side. Johnson was transported by Franklin County EMS to Overland Park Regional Hospital with life threatening injuries. Crump was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

As a result of the Kansas Highway Patrol Investigation, Johnson was arrested last week on a charge of involuntary manslaughter. In Kansas, involuntary manslaughter is defined as the killing of a human committed recklessly and or in the commission or flight from a felony crime. The case has been sent to the Franklin County Attorney’s Office.
