Saturday turned deadly in Williamsburg. Deputies from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 100 block of West William Street on a report of an unresponsive and injure man. Upon arrival on scene, 64-year-old Mark Ambler, of Williamsburg, was found deceased in his residence. According to a media release by the sheriff’s department, a homicide investigation was immediately initiated.

After a long day, and with the help of the Kansas Bureau of Investigation Crime Scene Response Team, a sheriff’s office K-9 unit located the suspect in the murder in the general area of the crime scene. Forty eight year-old Christopher Hassell, of Williamsburg, was detained and transported to AdventHealth Ottawa of injuries sustained. After treatment, he was arrested and charged with first degree murder and aggravated burglary. The case will be forwarded to the Franklin County Attorney’s Office for prosecution. No further details about the incident were released.
