‘Tis the season of holiday cheer, jingle bells, santa’s coming soon, twinkling lights, presents under the tree, and stealing things from Walmart….wait….what? So far this year, shoplifting in Ottawa is up sharply; however, Ottawa Police Chief, Adam Weingartner, told the City Commission that there’s more than meets the eye.
Official numbers show year to date, shoplifting is up about 110% over the same period in 2022. Weingartner adds that it’s also important to keep your car locked and anything of value out of sight to help prevent becoming a victim of crimes-of-opportunity.
