It hasn’t been a huge secret, but, long-time Ottawa Fire Chief, Tim Matthias is calling it a career. Matthias is retiring at the end of December after a 26-year career with the city of Ottawa. He made the official announcement at yesterday’s Ottawa City Commission meeting. KOFO’s Milton Ammel spoke with him after the meeting and Matthias says he has no particular retirement plans.

All told, Matthias has spent 33 years in the fire service, with seven years in Lawrence and the rest in Ottawa. Assistant Chief Shawn Dillon has been named the Interim Chief.
