Today marks the 82nd anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. President Franklin Roosevelt spoke to Congress the following day:
In the attack, over 4,400 U. S. soldiers were either killed or wounded and nearly the entire United States Pacific Naval Fleet destroyed, with over 1,100 going down with the USS Arizona alone. There are just two survivors from the attack that were on the Arizona. Louis Canter and Ken Potts, both 101 years old. They call each other every few weeks to talk about it and both want to be in Hawaii this year, but, due to health, will make appearances on zoom. Today, remember, tell your children and grandchildren and if you see a veteran, stop and thank them for their service.
