The Garnett City Commission will meet tonight, December 26th, at City Hall. On the agenda is a list of cereal malt beverage permits for various businesses in the Garnett area. There will also be a proclamation declaring January 9th as Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. On average, between 105 and 203 officers die in the line of duty each year; 50,000 officers are assaulted in the line of duty each year; 14,000 officers are injured in the line of duty each year; and over 300 officers commit suicide each year.
Also at the commission meeting tonight, a changing of the guard, so to speak. This will be Mayor Mark Shehan’s last meeting, as Nate Weel, who won election to the commission in the general election in November with a whopping 75% of the vote, with a write in campaign, will be sworn in at the meeting.
