The Ottawa City Commission has approved what is called the Federal Aviation Administration Disadvantages Business Enterprises Program. The policy is required by Federal Regulations. Anytime the Federal Aviation Administration funds are being considered, the policy ensures fair bidding practices are being followed.. Public Works Director Michael Haeffele with an explanation:
With the Parallel Taxiway Project at the Ottawa Municipal Airport coming up, Haeffele said the policy needed to be renewed. Some commissioners discussed delaying consideration of the policy so they could study it more closely, but Commissioner Sara Caylor said there’s no reason to wait. The commission went ahead and voted unanimously to approve the policy.
