Several organizations in Ottawa, including the United Way, Blessing Box Foundation, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, Ottawa Police Department, several churches, Elizabeth Layton Center and ECKAN have organized to help those in need of shelter from the upcoming arctic temperatures. They will be hosting a meal and warming center tonight, January 11th and tomorrow night, January 12th, from 5:00 to 8:00 at First Baptist Church for those in need. The event is focused on the communities homeless. Organizer Leigh Hanson says some supplies will be handed out:

Hanson says there will be volunteers staying the night if needed. However, more volunteers are needed to help out. If you would like to help, or know someone who needs shelter, Hanson says to call her directly at 785-418-2015, or call the hotline 211.

If you need shelter from the cold during the day, the Ottawa Library is available, and the Ottawa Police Department lobby is open as a place to warm up.
