The story of Southeast Kansas coal mines is a relatively unknown one in Kansas history…..that’s one point made by historian Linda Knoll during the annual meeting of the Franklin County Historical Society. Knoll says southeast Kansas has a story all its own:
Knoll says the wives of coal miners took up the challenge of calling for better working conditions for miners……..an effort that eventually saw state and federal government regulations for coal mine conditions.
