A fire damaged the garage area of a structure with both work and living spaces, west of Osawatomie on Thursday, February 15th, but no serious injuries were reported. The Miami County Republic reports that Miami County Emergency Management Coordinator, Mark Whelan, says the Miami County Sheriff’s office received a 911 call just after three that afternoon in regard to a fence that was on fire. Osawatomie firefighters responded to 35285 Indianapolis Road west of Osawatomie. The call eventually was upgraded to a building fire, which brought additional trucks from Fontana, Paola and Cutler Township, along with Miami County Emergency Medical Services and officials from Evergy and the miami county sMiami County Sheriff’s office, Whelan said.

Upon arrival, the first engine found fire on both the exterior and interior of the garage area with both living and work areas. Fire damage was limited to the garage area, but the living area did suffer some smoke damage. No formal damage estimate was determined, but estimated at about $100,000. Whelan says the cause of the fire appears to be accidental.
