The Osage Police Department is warning residents of a scam impersonating police. Osage City Chief of Police, Fred Nech, says he hopes people would not fall for it, but, there are those who are vulnerable to scams such as this. On Monday, March 4th, the police department warned of scammers using software that “forge” the name and number of the department. According to the OCPD, the caller ID says “Osage City Police Department” and matches the police phone number. The scammer will tell victims they have a warrant for their arrest and if they don’t pay, police will show up and arrest them.
The chief says police will never call to enforce a warrant. If you receive such a call, hang up, then report it to the police. He is urging people to talk to their friends, family and neighbors about the scam and encourage them not to believe such calls.
