Domestic violence was the center of attention in Douglas County recently as a Baldwin man was sentenced to 57 months in prison for a domestic incident. Douglas County District Attorney, Suzanne Valdez announced that 59-year-old Matthew Lee received the sentence for aggravated battery. The charges stemmed from an incident that occurred on February 6th, 2023, in the 700 block of Chapel Street in Baldwin City, Lee caused eye and neck injuries to a 37-year-old woman who identified herself as Lee’s fiancé. The woman, who declined medical attention at the time, also suffered injuries that made it difficult for her to walk.
District Attorney Valdez says, the sentence makes clear that violence has no place in our homes or community, and when a survivor steps forward, action will be taken to address the harms committed and prevent the infliction of future violence.
