The Ottawa City Commission heard what some might consider a surprising proposal during its regular meeting. City officials have been reviewing whether the city should carry flood insurance. Human Resources Director, Michelle Stegman, gave a recommendation:
The city will pay around $145,000 in flood premiums in 2024. Ottawa Mayor, Mike Skidmore, has questioned if the city needs to have flood insurance in view of the levy system. Further discussion of the issue is expected in the weeks ahead.
