An accident on I-35 near Edgerton Road led to the death of a Florida man. Just before 3:00 yesterday morning, April 27th, just northeast of Edgerton road, a vehicle driven by 27-year-old Matthew Karabas, of Monroe, New Jersey, was driving the wrong way, south bound in the northbound lanes, of I-35, when he struck a semi truck, driven by 29-year-old Garrido Chinea, of Kansas City, head on. The impact of the crash killed 22-year-old Eric Diaz, of Melbourne, Florida. Karabas was taken to Overland Park Regional Medical Center with serious, life threatening injuries.
The driver of the truck suffered only minor injuries. I-35 was closed to northbound traffic at Wellsville for several hours while first responders worked the scene.
