U.S. Senator, Jerry Moran, a member of the Senate Committee on Commerce has joined 60 other senators in co-sponsoring the bipartisan “AM Radio For Every Vehicle Act.” This legislation would direct the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to require automakers to maintain AM broadcast radio in new vehicles at no additional charge. Similar legislation has been introduced in the U. S. House of Representatives. One huge reason to keep AM radio is emergency communication and may mean life or death in severe weather season. Kansas Association of Broadcasters, Allison Mazzie:

Moran says the legislation would ensure that all parts of the country are covered when it comes to getting information on dangerous weather. This legislation was introduced by Senators Ed Markey of Massachusetts and Ted Cruz from Texas and is now co-sponsored by 60 senators.
