Governor Laura Kelly says she will call lawmakers back to Topeka to work on a tax relief package. They did work out another package just before adjourning. They say it is close to the same one as the Governor vetoed last week but with a few tweaks and say it addresses her concerns to bring long term costs down. The plan keeps two income tax brackets, but reduces the rate cut. It also keeps the cuts for Social Security, property taxes and food sales tax. The Governor’s office called it an attempt to leave town without tax relief. House Speaker Dan Hawkins says the plan has overwhelming bipartisan support and was frustrated by a potential veto:

Kelly says she will likely veto this plan also and call the legislature back for a special session.
