David Braun has been appointed as the new District Magistrate Judge for Franklin County by the 4th Judicial District Nominating Commission. He will replace Kevin Kimball, who retired March 1.

Braun is currently a private practitioner at Braun Law and will start his new duties after his swearing-in ceremony. The 4th Judicial District, covering Anderson, Coffey, Franklin, and Osage Counties, requires that its judges live in the county they serve. Candidates must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent, and must be a licensed lawyer in Kansas or pass a certification exam within 18 months.

The selection of Braun was managed by the 4th Judicial District Nominating Commission, led by Justice Eric S. Rosen. The commission includes members from various towns within the district to ensure diverse representation in the selection process. Braun will initially serve for one year and then face a retention vote in the next general election. If retained, he will serve a four-year term.
