This weekend’s temperatures have a lot of people thinking about summer and hitting the lake for camping and boating. There’s nothing like tooling around a lake in a boat on a warm day, a nice breeze, man, it feels so good! Knowing how to be safe on the water can help you enjoy it even more! On any body of water, water safety is important and, on a river, being familiar with the water you are in is something Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism, David Simonetti, encourages:

This is National Boating Safety Week. The United States Coast Guard says fire extinguishers are mandatory, as well has having a wireless engine cutoff switch. They also say every boat should have an electronic visual distress signal. Last year, 767 people lost their lives and over 3,000 were injured in boating accidents.
