A Miami County deputy was injured in a vehicle pursuit Saturday, May 18th. Late Saturday evening, the Miami County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of a pursuit that was entering Miami County.
Miami County deputies attempted to use a tire deflation device but were unsuccessful. The vehicle continued to flee and a Miami County deputy attempted a tactical vehicle intervention technique, or ‘pit maneuver’, but the fleeing vehicle hit his brakes, got behind the patrol car, and crashed into the rear, then crashed into the side of the patrol car before getting hung up on the push bumper.
The suspect vehicle became free and deputies successfully deployed a tire deflation device that successfully deflated at least two tires. The suspect vehicle came to a stop. The driver, who was not identified, was taken into custody and booked into the Miami County Jail with multiple misdemeanor and felony charges. The Miami County deputy was injured in the pursuit and was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. This incident continues to be investigated by the Miami County Sheriff’s Office.
