Governor Kelly, following through with her promise, announced that she is calling lawmakers back to the State House for a Special Session to come up with a tax plan agreeable to both them and her. Legislators will reconvene June 18th. Legislators offered numerous plans during the Regular Session, but Kelly vetoed them all, saying they were too costly and unsustainable in the long term. In a media release, Kelly says she believes the two sides can come together for a financially responsible solution that puts money back into the pockets of Kansans:
Republican leadership has criticized Kelly for not being willing to compromise. Senate President Ty Masterson, saying the vetoes were a power play on her part.
