Prairie Paws Animal Shelter has asked the City Commission for a $62,000 increase to their budget to fund an animal control person. Shelter Director Vanessa Cowie says that breaks down to $9.33 per capita, or 80 cents a month per person, and that still is under the average:
Cowie says the person in charge of animal control would respond to calls not only within the city limits of Ottawa but all across the county. She indicated that the County Commission did not want to fund part of the cost. The Commission took the recommendation under consideration as they continue to go over budget requests for next year.
