Kansas drivers are being warned of scammers trying to get hold of your personal information. The Kansas Turnpike Authority says it has learned of a text message scam targeting people living in Kansas. The phishing scam looks like a text is being sent from “Kansas Toll Services”. It asks for personal information, such as bank accounts and credit cards, to pay for outstanding tolls. The text claims the user will be charged a late fee if the bill isn’t settled immediately.

The text is not from the Kansas Turnpike Authority. The Kansas Turnpike never sends texts about toll payments. Other toll agencies across the country are reporting the same scam. Because of the number of people impacted, the FBI issued an announcement about the fake texts last month. Customers who receive the text should not click the link that is included. Instead, customers are asked to file a complaint with the FBI’s Crime Complaint Center.
