June 21st, the first day of summer, “Kids and Car Safety”, members of congress, safety advocates and families of hot car victims, will discuss the Federal Hot Car Rule which has unacceptably been delayed, missing the critical November 2023 deadline mandated by congress in bipartisan legislation, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Once finalized, the rule will require available and affordable technology in all new cars to stop children and animals from dying in hot car deaths. Kids and Cars organizer Amber Rollins says it should have already happened:
At least 1,085 children have died in hot cars since 1990 in the United States and already this year eight have died. The event will feature a chilling visual display of 1,085 infant onesies to represent the children who have lost their lives in hot cars.
