Franklin County District Court has four murder cases going through the court. That’s more homicide cases at the same time than ever before. A suspect in one of the cases will be in court Thursday, June 26th, for a status conference. KBI agents and Franklin County Sheriff deputies arrested 24-year-old Jason Marnell of Richmond, in February for the death of his newborn son, one month old Waylon Marnell. The charges stem from a response to a medical call at 304 Central Street in Richmond on January 14th, where first responders found an unresponsive infant. Life saving measures were given to the child and he was transported to AdventHealth Ottawa and later transferred to Children’s Mercy Hospital in critical condition, where he died on January 28th. The investigation led agents and deputies to believe that Marnell was responsible for the injuries that caused Waylon’s death. He was arrested and booked into the Franklin County jail on charges of first degree murder and abuse of a child.

The status conference will be held at 1:15 Thursday in Franklin County District Court in the East Courtroom.

Suspects in other homicide cases in the county are due for appearances in July and August.
