A status conference was held in Franklin County District Court Thursday, June 27th, for a man accused of killing his infant son. Twenty four-year-old Jason Marnell of Richmond, was arrested in late January on charges of first degree murder and abuse of a child, in the death of his son. Prosecutors say he was responsible for the injuries that one month old Waylon Marnell died from. The charges stem from a response to a medical call at 304 Central Street in Richmond on January 14th, where first responders found an unresponsive infant. Life saving measures were given to the child and he was transported to AdventHealth Ottawa and later transferred to Children’s Mercy Hospital in critical condition, where he died on January 28th.

Two witnesses took the stand and answered questions from both attorney’s in the case. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for August 29th at 1:00 in Franklin County District Court.

The case is one of four homicide cases in the county courts
