A Probable Cause Affidavit, recently unsealed in Miami County District Court, outlines accusations against a Carthage man, facing a murder charge after allegedly killing his 24-year-old wife in Miami County and then transporting her body in a camper back to Carthage. Twenty three-year-old Gavino McJunkins-Macias, was booked into the Jasper County Jail in Missouri for abandonment of a corpse, and was later charged with second-degree murder in Miami County District Court and has a $1 million bond.
According to the affidavit, Macias called 911 and told the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office that he had his deceased wife in a camper. Telling them it happened in the RV park in rural Louisburg, but, in a panic, drove her down here to Carthage. Carthage police made contact with Macias, who directed officers to the camper on the northwest side of the property. A deceased woman, identified as 24-year-old Kenia Lopez of Carthage was found wrapped in a blanket inside the camper. Carthage detectives observed large fresh scratch marks on Macias’ arms, as well as a fresh bite mark on his back, as well as fresh jagged cut marks on his hands consistent with a serrated blade.
A Preliminary Status Hearing is scheduled for 9:00, the morning of August 8th at the Miami County Courthouse.
