The Ottawa Fire Department has announced the promotion of Michael Wilson to Fire Captain. His journey in the fire service began with the Iola Fire Department in 2014, and he joined the Ottawa Fire Department in April, of 2017. Chief Shawn Dillon says his dedication and service have been evident throughout his tenure, from his roles as a driver/engineer and lieutenant to his current position as fire captain. In addition to his new role as fire captain, Michael continues to be a valuable asset to our community as the department’s public education coordinator and community risk reduction coordinator. Dillon says Wilson’s efforts in these roles, along with future initiatives, will significantly enhance their outreach and risk management initiatives.
Captain Wilson is also pursuing an associate’s degree in fire science at the Kansas City Kansas Community College. He has also completed several National Fire Academy coursework in Emmitsburg, Maryland emphasizing community risk reduction. His commitment to professional growth and service exemplifies the qualities we value in the department. Wilson will be our guest on KOFO during the Brad Howard Early Morning Show Wednesday morning, August 7, right after the 7 o’clock news.
