Would you like a chance to see the largest steam locomotive in the world? Union Pacific Railroad announced recently that the massive steam powered locomotive “Big Boy” will be making a few stops in Kansas soon…one of those stops will be in Osawatomie. The historic locomotive will begin its tour August 28th, departing from Cheyenne, Wyoming and traveling across nine states. The stop in Osawatomie will be on October 15th at the West Pacific Avenue Crossing. Big Boy will arrive at 2:25 that afternoon, but it will be a quick visit, departing at 2:45. Other stops in Kansas will include Coffeyville, Topeka, Salina, Hays, and Sharon Springs.

The Big Boy #4014 is one of 25 built exclusively for the Union Pacific Railroad with the first one being delivered in 1941. Each of these locomotives measured 132 feet in length and weighed 1.2 million pounds. Seven of these locomotives are on display in various locations around the country, Big Boy the only one touring.
