A Garnett area parish priest was relieved of his duties recently by the Kansas City Archdiocese pending the culmination of what a church notice called an “active criminal investigation by the Garnett Police Department.” Garnett Police Chief, Kurt King, says Father Daniel Stover was not arrested, but provided no additional information. A statement by the Archdiocese says they became aware of an active criminal investigation by the Garnett Police Department of Father Daniel Stover earlier this month. The matter regards an alleged incident involving an adult. Father Stover is entitled to a presumption of innocence at this time.

The notice says Stover’s official authorizations have been temporarily removed pending the outcome of the investigation. They said a precautionary removal is a step to protect all parties and should not be viewed as an assertion of guilt. It says a temporary administrator had been assigned to the Holy Angels and Saint John the Baptist Parishes in Garnett and Greeley. The notice urged anyone with information about the case to contact the Garnett Police Department.

In 2015 Stover came to pastor the parishes of Holy Angels, Garnett, and St. John the Baptist, Greeley, with pastoral responsibility for St. Rose School, Garnett, in 2018.
