Work on the Old 50 Highway improvement project is progressing rather quickly. Franklin County Public Works Director Jeff Welton gives us an update:
Old 50 Highway was once part of the main route across the country. Construction began in 1926. Once completed, it ran 3,000 miles from Ocean City, Maryland to Sacramento, California. The midway point in the highway was Kinsley, Kansas. The introduction of the interstate highway system in the 1960’s and 70’s left Old 50 as an alternative route.
