Those attending the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson had a big scare Tuesday, September 5th, when an explosion at a concession trailer left 6 people hurt. The incident happened just before 6:30 that evening at “The Fry Shack” on the fairgrounds. Hailey Crank, who was at the fair, described the scene:
Three people declined medical assistance and another declined transportation to the hospital. Two people were taken to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center with serious injuries suffered in the explosion. They were treated for severe lacerations and minor burns. Investigators determined the cause to be the overpressure of a canned food product stored near a food warmer. The canned food item got too hot, causing the explosion. The fair runs through Sunday, September 8th.
