A social media post threatening violence at a school referred to as “OMS” created concern for students, parents and staff at Osawatomie Middle School, but law enforcement officers determined the post was from Ohio. Osawatomie Police Chief David says several students had seen a post on snapchat and believed to be directed at Osawatomie Middle School.

The snapchat post consisted of a picture of an individual holding a firearm with the caption, “OMS, y’all are next.” Osawatomie police immediately began an investigation.

Officers discovered that Ottawa USD 290 and the Ottawa Police Department were investigating the exact same social media post and believed it may have been directed toward Ottawa Middle School. They had determined the post was directed toward a middle school in Ottawa, Ohio, and not any school in Kansas.
Detective Hall contacted law enforcement officials in Ohio and was told the social media post was investigated last week and has been resolved.

Police encourage everyone to report any threat immediately. If you see something, say something
