Some costly delays on the 6th Street reconstruction project. It happened… again. Signs placed at the site for everyone’s safety, have been ignored. Despite the big bold “road closed” signs, someone decided it would be a good idea to go around the barricade and drive onto new concrete. So, 6th Street between Brown Avenue and Kelly Avenue was closed, again yesterday, and will be closed tomorrow as newly poured concrete panels had to be wrecked out because they were severely damaged by non-authorized traffic. Someone drove around the barricades, between labor, equipment and materials, and caused over $70,000 in damage. The City of Osawatomie, once again, is urging motorist…do not drive around or move road closed signs, barricades, cones, other signs. The road is closed! The city is working with all appropriate authorities to identify the responsible individuals and pursue restitution for the damages incurred.
City officials also remind motorist that if you are not part of the construction team, do not, repeat, do not follow trucks or other equipment around the barricades and into the construction area.
