Thinking about getting out to the lake to enjoy the beautiful warm weekend coming up. Are you thinking about hitting the water one more time before fall really sets in? Fishing, swimming, boating, skiing? Sounds awesome. But….be aware that there are some lakes in the area with the dreaded blue green algae watches or warnings. If you are headed to Melvern Lake, know that the Melvern outlet River pond is under a warning status. This indicates that conditions are unsafe for human and pet exposure and all contact with the water should be avoided. Also, the Melvern Outlet swim pond is in watch status, meaning that blue-green algae has been detected and a harmful algal bloom is present or likely to develop.

People are encouraged to avoid areas of algae accumulation and keep pets away from the water.. Be on the lookout for an algae bloom that may look like foam, scum or paint on the water and be colored blue, bright green , brown or red. Don’t let dogs or other animals including yourself and your friends and kids come in contact. If so, wash off with clean water. Don’t let this ruin your fun. Get out and enjoy an incredibly nice weekend and know that the warm weather won’t be here forever.
