A short vehicle chase and cooperation between law enforcement agencies, led the arrest of a Wellsville man yesterday, October 14th. A Franklin County Sheriff Deputy attempted a traffic stop in the 2500 block of Logan and the driver accelerated and drove erratically away on eastbound K-68. When the vehicle was close to the Walmart Distribution Center, the deputy used a pit maneuver in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The vehicle went off the roadway to the north but he drove through a yard, a fence and into a pasture toward the northeast. The deputy did not follow him into the pasture, but observed he drove through two more fences and into a tree line to the northeast. The Ottawa Police assisted in setting up a perimeter and multiple drones were deployed to find the vehicle. It was located in the trees, involved in a crash. Officers went to the scene on foot and located 36-year-old Aaron Ayers, of Wellsville in the area of the truck, with the assistance of a Osage County K-9 unit, Kilo.
Ayers was treated for injuries at AdventHealth Ottawa and upon release was arrested for felony fleeing and eluding, felony criminal damage to property, reckless driving, driving while a license was revoked and battery on a law enforcement officer. The Sheriff’s Office thanks the other agencies for their assistance in the incident.
