Deer are on the run as the rut is really starting to ramp up. There have been 22 car/deer accidents in Franklin County, so far, in October, and the peak isn’t for another month. It is vital to be cautious when you are driving, any time of the day to avoid a collision with deer, however, it isn’t only deer you have to be looking out for on the roadways. Sunday night, 46-year-old Brandi Keegan, of Ottawa was southbound in the 200 block of Old 50 Highway when she struck a cow in the road. Keegan was taken to AdventHealth Ottawa for treatment of injuries she sustained in the crash with the cow.

Franklin County Sheriff officials urge drivers to be cautious as they drive, particularly in the late evening, overnight and early morning hours. Deer, cattle, horses, pigs, coyotes, raccoons, bobcats, goats, and other animals have all caused accidents in recent months on county highways and byways.
